Facelift procedures are more than your average, everyday medical treatments. While it’s generally regarded as being safe and effective, facelift surgery still has its share of risks. Needless to say, preparation is the key for achieving desired results. Remember that the success of a facelift procedure doesn’t entirely lie on the hands of a cosmetic surgeon. As a patient, you should educate and prepare yourself for the operation.

Step 1:  Give the surgeon your complete medical history

Some medical conditions and medications may interfere with the safety of facelift surgery. Prior to discussing the actual facelift procedure with your cosmetic surgeon, it’s important that you ask for your complete medical history.

Some of the conditions that are worth taking a closer look include hypertension, allergies to anesthesia and scarring problems to name a few. If and when such conditions arise, tell it to your cosmetic surgeon so that they can decide if facelift surgery is possible.

Step 2: Understand and comply fully with your surgeon’s instructions before and after the procedure

Your cosmetic surgeon will give you basic instructions on what to do before and after facelift surgery. This is usually done at least a few days before or a week before the operation. Hence, it’s essential that you try to equip yourself with as much information as possible.

Your cosmetic surgeon will almost always tell you small yet critical things such as the food you’re allowed to eat, the medicines you are required to take and things you should not do after the facelift procedure.

Step 3: Plan your recovery

It’s essential that you plan your recovery period. Recuperating fully from facelift surgery will typically last a week or two, depending on the complexity of the facelift procedure. Recovery is a lot harder if you’re living alone, thus, it’s a good idea to hire a private nurse at least for the duration of your recovery.

Step 4: Painkillers and medications for faster recovery

Having enough supply of painkillers and medications is also advisable for faster recovery. As much as possible, don’t expose your wounds and don’t do hard chores during the stage of recovery.

Step 5: Prepare for possible risks, complications and side-effects that may occur

Let’s face it, there’s no such thing as a 100 percent guarantee. For that matter, it’s just appropriate that you consider the possible risks, complications and side-effects that may occur during and after facelift surgery. Knowing the possible risks, complications and side-effects can help you arrive with a better and more informed decision.
